How to Make Fancy Fringe on a Scarf
- 1). Cut a piece of cardboard that is 8 to 10 inches wide and slightly longer than your scarf. Wrap a few strands of yarn around the cardboard. Remember that you are only looking at one side and that the yarn will be double the thickness when you cut it.
- 2). Decide how many strands of yarn you want in each tassel and how many tassels you would like. Multiply the number of yarn strings you want in a tassel with the number of tassels to find out how many times to wind the yarn around the cardboard. Multiply that number by two as you want to put tassels on both sides of the scarf.
- 3). Wind the yarn around the cardboard the amount of times you calculated in the previous step. Wind the yarn neatly, so that each strand lies next to the previous one, not wildly in any direction. When you are done, cut one end of the yarn, along the cardboard edge.
- 4). Gather the yarn strands into tassels. Line up the ends of the yarn and fold the tassel in half. Stick the crochet needle or yarn needle through the first row of knitting or crochet at the end of your scarf. Hook the bend in the yarn and pull through the scarf. Now you have a loop of yarn on one side of the scarf and the ends of the yarn on the other.
- 5). Feed the ends of the yarn through the loop and pull the knot tightly. This is your first tassel. Continue to do the same for the other tassels on both edges of the scarf.
