How to Recharge an AFE Air Filter
- 1). Purchase an AFE filter recharging/cleaning kit. This kit comes with the correct cleaning solution as well as the oil needed to recharge your filter.
- 2). Hold the filter upright with the pleats running vertically. Gently brush the pleats down with a clean paintbrush to remove large chunks of dirt from the pleats.
- 3). Tap the edge of the filter gently against the interior rim of a trash can, or on the ground to tap out additional dirt. Spray the filter with the AFE cleaning solution. Let the solution soak for 10 to 15 minutes.
- 4). Spray the filter with a low-pressure hose. Use an inside faucet sprayer, such as the one found on your kitchen sink, for best results. If such a sprayer is unavailable, let water run over the filter until the stream on the other side is clear and free of dirt. Don't use a high-pressure hose--this will damage the filter.
- 5). Let the filter air dry for 12 to 24 hours. Do not use heat or compressed air to accelerate the drying process. Let the filter dry naturally before proceeding.
- 1). Hold the filter in the vertical position with the pleats running up and down.
- 2). Apply a small bit of AFE oil to the top of each pleat. The oil will run down each pleat and soak it thoroughly. Do not over apply the oil--this will damage the filter.
- 3). Let the oil soak for about 12 hours, and then re-insert the filter into your vehicle. It is ready for use.
